Barriers to hope come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is our failure, or sometimes it's the challenge of things beyond our control, yet other times it's hurts done to us that have a way of sticking with us. Whether the barrier is shame, regret or resignation the results are the same: hope seems impossible. We all need hope, especially those who've given up on it.

The longer we are accustomed to having something, we tend to take it for granted. This is true of people we love, a position we hold and the things er have. It is also true for the grace we have received. Sometimes we live hopeless, not because of future prospects, but because we no longer appreciate what we have been given. By overcoming the tendency to "take for granted," we'll find that Hope expressed looks like gratitude.
