“The Branch Abides” (New series on the “I AM” statements of Jesus #5 of 7) John 15:1-8
Who is Jesus? Who did He say he was? We continue to explore some of the surprising ways Jesus described himself in what are called the “I Am” statements in the Gospel of John. It is easy to feel run down by life; without direction, enough strength or hope. Today as we will see as Jesus referred to himself as the “true vine” he was both offering hints about his identity and also about our purpose and the source of our power.

Who is Jesus? Who did He say he was? We continue to explore some of the surprising ways Jesus described himself in what are called the “I Am” statements in the Gospel of John. Today we will consider Jesus saying “I am the good shepherd”. Having a shepherd did not remove the threats around the sheep, but his protection gave them security.

Who is Jesus? Who did He say he was? Over the course of the next few weeks we will explore some of the surprising ways Jesus described himself in what are called the “I AM” statements in the Gospel of John. This week we will consider Jesus saying “I am the light of the world”. The dark can be very disorienting and frightening. His light is intended to be our answer.

This week we begin with Jesus saying “I am the bread of life”. We all yearn for “more,” but there is a big difference between a life that is filled full and a life that is fulfilled. In the Bread of Life, we are invited to find fulfillment.

The trouble with trouble is it refuses to stay within its’ boundaries: Hurts from the past seem to linger into the present, fears of the future creep into our present before their time. The trouble with trouble is it tends to become a jumbled mess. Yet Jesus said that despite the trouble of life, we can experience His peace. Any takers?
