- Understand Yourself: discover your gifts, humbly using for God’s purpose.
- Encourage Others: refresh others, speak words of life and take action to help others to be their best for God.

“More Than Resolutions (#4): Life giving connections” Romans 12:4-5
There is something wonderful about the fresh start of a New Year; filled with optimism and the prospect to things getting better. But let’s face facts, change for the better does not automatically occur with the turning of a calendar page, but change is God’s plan and path for us. The Bible offers some specific areas where our growth would not only bless us but also those around us. The Body of Christ is part of his answer to the discouragement, isolation and stress of life. A member of any body can only be healthy if it remains connected to the rest.

Christmas has become many things for many people, often filled with gifts, decorations, trees, music, lights and special meals with family and friends. With everything going on, it is easy to lose sight of Jesus. Yet the Gift of Jesus that we celebrate at Christmas is really bigger than any one day celebration. The point is to ponder in our hearts throughout the year, the grace we celebrate today.

“The Tender Mercies of Christmas” Luke 1:68-79
Sometimes big things come in small packages! As we approach the Christmas season, we can see that this is God’s mode of operating in the Christmas story. Characters like Zechariah and Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph, the lowly shepherds all play a part in revealing the tender mercies of God towards his people. His light has come, love came down at Christmas.

Sometimes big things come in small packages! As we approach the Christmas season, we can see that this is God’s mode of operating in the Christmas story. The bottom rung of the 1st century economic ladder was the shepherd, and yet it is to shepherds that the announcement of God’s good news comes. It is easy to think that those who have more stuff/status are the more fortunate, but in this story, it is those who hear from God, respond to God and bear witness to God’s gift!

Sometimes big things come in small packages! As we approach the Christmas season, we can see that this is God’s mode of operating in the Christmas story. Past disappointments as well as fears of the future can leave us on edge and in a state of spiritual turmoil. Yet, God didn’t choose to use those immune from fear, but rather an unexpected couple, Zechariah and Elizabeth to prepare the world for the Prince of Peace.
