“Shark Tank” Real Reality series, #4
Matthew 5:14-16
Today we continue the series “Real Reality”. Each week we’ll explore our human condition through the lens of popular reality TV shows and the hope we have through the lens of God’s word. In “Shark Tank”, each contestant is asked to present their product/business idea to a panel of “sharks”, tycoons who weigh the presentation to determine if they will buy in to the project. Like the contestant tasked to clearly stating the business vision, we as Christ followers are tasked to clearly represent Him in the world. How we act, as well as what we say is part of the testimony we have to share.

We continue the series “Real Reality”. Each week we’ll explore our human condition through the lens of popular reality TV shows and the hope we have through the lens of God’s word. “The Apprentice”, now in it’s 14th season, pits contestants against each other as they compete to please/ impress their boss. For much of the life of the show that boss has been Donald Trump, but the question for us is: who is “the boss” we seek to please?

As people of God, we have to see Rahab’s story and understand it. God saves sinners while they are still sinners! Not after they get their act together. But when we put our faith in Jesus, God is in the business of taking symbols of our sin and exchanging them for symbols of our salvation. Your past might be a problem for you, but it’s not a problem for God. God holds the future.

Discovery channel's "Naked and Afraid" is our starting point and through it we will look at the Bible's first couple who were found to be "naked and afraid" as we will explore source and solution of the insecurity that riddles our lives.

Birthday celebrations are important events. Reminders of God’s goodness, reasons to remain thankful, time to evaluate purpose and direction. Be it for an individual or an institution, the birthday marks a significant event. Just as the 4th of July marks the birth of our nation, so Pentecost Sunday marks the birth of the church, but what does it’s birth say to us today?

As Easter people, we are invited to live in the reality of the resurrection! Sometimes that may give us strength to deal with difficult circumstances in life and at other times with difficult people in life. Often the most difficult person can be the one in the mirror. We, like Peter, often get stuck in our past failures, but Jesus loves us too much to leave us that way!

As Easter people, we are invited to live in the reality of the resurrection! Made for a purpose, we are not only invited into a relationship with God, but also onto the mission field to impact the world. Yet, we tend to fall into one of two mistaken tendencies: inactivity, thinking we’re not capable or someone else will do it; or over activity, getting out ahead of God’s direction and misusing the energy God provides us. Today we’ll consider what Jesus says about the power of purposeful patience.

“Light in the Darkness”

Darkness and despair had taken the hearts and minds of the disciples. Two of them embark on a short journey, we’re not sure why. Then something happens along the way, they are found by Jesus. We too as followers of Jesus are invited to liven the reality of the resurrection in times of adversity, because it is here that we find the strength to continue and the hope to overcome.
