SHOUT-SERVE-COME-KNOW-ENTER-GIVE-BLESS
All these words are calling us to do something. Not just with words but also in action. To celebrate Thanksgiving, has always been a matter of involvement. God calls us to be actively involved in giving thanks to Him! No matter what date it is on the calendar. Thanksgiving continues on long past the fourth Thursday of November. This is what we need to do on a daily basis. It is a time of giving “THANKS”.

This is Us! Genesis (part 5) “Passing the Test” Genesis 22
Much of the book of Genesis is focused on a family, and families can be messy. To its credit, the Bible does not sanitize the characters we will encounter into role models of perfection; rather there is an authentic ring to them because they were imperfect as we are. This week Abraham is confronted by an impossible choice. Sometimes we too are forced to confront “impossible” challenges and when we do, the outcome may be determined by who we believe God to be. With his Isaac on the altar, Abrahams God comes through.

This Us! Genesis (Part 4) "Where is God?" Genesis 16
Much of the book of Genesis is focused on a family, and families can be messy. To its credit, the Bible does not sanitize the characters we will encounter into role models of perfection; rather there is an authentic ring to them because they were imperfect as we are. Dysfunction all around: Abram and Sarai often got it wrong and Hagar and Ishmael didn't help. In this crazy world it is easy to wonder if our mistakes have disqualified us from God's care, or if God has forgotten us. Overwhelmed by the chaos around us, or feeling alone is a sea of uncertainty, this story reminds us of God's unwavering care.

This is Us! Genesis (part 3) “The Trust Challenge” Genesis 15
Much of the book of Genesis is focused on a family, and families can be messy. To its credit, the Bible does not sanitize the characters we will encounter into role models of perfection; rather there is an authentic ring to them because they were imperfect as we are. And if they were imperfect people that God used to impact the world, could God not also intend to affect the world through us. Keeping our balance and learning to trust are difficult amidst the ups and downs of life. Abraham and Sarah didn’t always get it right, but we can still learn from these lessons.

(The struggle for Oneness) Genesis 3
Much of the book of Genesis is focused on a family, and families can be messy. To its credit, the Bible does not sanitize the characters we will encounter into role models of perfection; rather there is an authentic ring to them because they were imperfect as we are. And if they were imperfect people that God used to impact the world, could God not also intend to affect the world through us. We look at the Bible’s first family, to see God’s plan for their unity and the struggle with forces that divide.

This is Us! (Genesis) Abraham Genesis 12
We begin the Abraham, patriarch of the Jewish people. As in his time, our world is still a place where some live at risk of being victimized and exploited. What can we do about it?

We R the Church (part 4)
“Go and Grow!” Matthew 28:18-20
In the weeks leading up to our Birthday Celebration we will explore together what it means to be the church: a healthy, whole body of Christ that is forgiven and forgives, that has been redeemed and redeems, that lives and give life. The natural tendency is to settle, similar to Newtons 1st law of motion that states “An object at rest stays at rest...”. But the church is to be a dynamic, living, growing body, and we are called to be this church.

In the weeks leading up to our Birthday Celebration (October 15) we will explore together what it means to be the church: a healthy, whole body of Christ that is forgiven and forgives, that has been redeemed and redeems, that lives and give life. We live in “a please yourself/seek to be served” world yet the church is called to offer another expression of freedom: service.

We R the Church (part 2) "Changing and Growing" Roman/2:2
In the weeks leading up to our Birthday Celebration (October 15) we will explore together what it means to be the church: a healthy, whole body of Christ that is forgiven and forgives, that has been redeemed and redeems, that lives and give life. We may yearn for security, comfort, and familiarity yet we are each called to be changed, renewed and growing. The church (we) are to be a transformed and transforming people.
