A fresh start, perhaps you need one? Once we clear out some of the clutter, get “unstuck” from disappointment and shame we are still not sure what awaits us. Like the son in the Prodigal story, leaving “distant-land” makes us wonder how will God receive us and what will be expected as we get that fresh start.

A fresh start, perhaps you need one? One of the inescapable laws of nature is the certainty that clutter accumulates. We see it around our homes and from time to time we need to intervene, we call it “spring cleaning.” It’s not just our homes, but also our spiritual lives are also subject to this natural law. As this clutter grows, it cuts into the vitality of our spiritual walk. We’ll look into getting a fresh start and today address the clutter that stands in the way.

Confused; Dejected; Hopeless; Grief-weary. These are but a few of the descriptions of the emotional state of the women that first Easter morning as they approach the tomb of Jesus. Honestly, they may also describe our emotional state at various times in our lives. But the reality they discovered changed their world, and it changes our world. Life can be difficult and death is inevitable but the empty tomb of Easter changes everything.

As we continue to draw closer to the celebration of Easter, we watch as Jesus draws closer to the cross. Today Jesus walks the “Via Dolorosa” (“the way of Suffering”) from Pilate’s court to the hill of the crucifixion. Along the way we are introduced to Simon, an accidental participant in the Jesus story. Carrying the cross was not what he set out to do that day, but it was the unlikely twist presented to him.

As we move toward the celebration of Easter, the next few weeks will focus on the events leading up to the cross. Today we continue with the trial before the Roman governor, Pilate. Life is defined by the choices, those we make and those made that affect us. Note the choices Jesus makes as well as those made by Pilate and the crowd.
