“More than I can handle?”

Shocking those who knew Him, offending those who thought they did, Jesus repeatedly proved that His “ways are not our ways.” In Mark 6 we confront the familiar story of Jesus feeding a hug crowd, but it’s that familiarity that keeps us from learning the key lesson of the story which is Jesus is enough. It is a reminder that He works best when the challenges we face are greater than the resources we have to meet them.

What makes it remarkable are the number of surprising twists and responses to this power revealed, raising the question of what will be our response to the work of God within us?

The Stretch Mark 3:1‐6
Shocking those who knew Him, offending those who thought they did, Jesus repeatedly proved that His “ways are not our ways.” Today we’ll explore another of His unexpected ways as does the “right” thing at what seemed like the “wrong” me. “Stretch out your hand” he said, but the real stretch was for those who would look for an excuse to not care when confronted with human suffering. It may be a stretch to do the right thing, but that’s what Jesus invites us to.

Unconcerned for his reputacion, he puts the needs of others first. This is sll a very difficult thing to do.

More than a Healer

A New Year opens, we make a new start. We open the year with a fresh look at the Gospel of Mark. Here we will discover both the person of Jesus and his designs for us. In Chapter 2 we see the depiction of his ministry is full of surprises. His ability to heal was certainly an attraction but he was interested in more. Perhaps our prayers for God to intervene in our problems are also a door through which He will bring deeper change (and hope) for us.

Many Christians today have a mini‐me mentality. They are greatly reduced versions of the real selves, God has made them to be. Thankfully, we do not serve a mini‐me God! Whatever your need is, God is bigger! Whatever your weakness is, God is stronger! This story of Gideon will teach us how to break free from the mini‐me syndrome.
