Being a Mom is a tough job. It holds in tension a weird mix that makes both statements “more wonderful than you could ever dream” and “harder than you could ever imagine” true.
Today we look at the biblical story of a young mother named Hagar, who feels neglected, unappreciated, taken advantage of, and fed up with the new challenges she faces. She comes to the end of her rope, and there she finds a resource she hadn’t counted on – God Himself.

Pandemic and quarantine, we are walking through a dark valley. While the shut down has caused us to slow down and made our hectic lives a little quieter, yet even in the quiet, we can hear those inner voices of condemnation. Haunted by our past, the wounds we’ve received and mistakes we’ve made, we wonder can we move beyond this valley and be right and whole again. Where is God is such valleys? What does He offer to get us through and grow us through the valley of failure?

“Getting Through, and Growing Through the Valley” #2 Philippians 2:3-8

Sunday Apr 26, 2020
Pandemic and quarantine, we are walking through a dark valley. Truthfully, it’s not just the outside world pressing on us which leads to such valleys, but also it involves our internal struggles as well. When I get irritated because “things aren’t going my way” is it more about how “things” are going or more about “not my way”? Life is always filled with peaks and valleys, and while we don’t care for the valleys, God’s does His best work there. The good news is His plan is not to leave us stuck in such valleys but to offer help in getting through (and growing through) to the other side.

“This Jesus” (Where is He At?)
Matthew 21
In times of uncertainty, Jesus knew where He was at. Today we are reminded through the story of the Triumphal Entry that our focus should be more on Him(!) as well as on being thankful for all He has done for us in order to live by faith and not by fear.

Series – “Gospel of Mark: Jesus, the Unexpected –part 11” #11 – “Life Interrupted” Mark 5:21-43
Shocking those who knew Him, offending those who thought they did, Jesus repeatedly proved that His “ways are not our ways”. In Mark 5 we find Jesus healing as he often did, but also dealing with an interruption which surprises us, but doesn’t seem to bother Him. Interruptions come in all shapes and sizes, and how they affect us may differ from person to person. Today, in the midst of our response to the coronavirus pandemic, we all find our life interrupted. So much of what made up our “normal” two weeks ago seems to have become a distant memory. How can we discover a little more of the touch of Jesus in the midst of this time of interruption?

“Paul and Silas in Prison”
16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.f
19When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.” 22The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.m 23After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.”
