Our lives are filled with ups and downs, both joys and sorrows, as well as times of peace and times of anxiousness. Our emotions flow from these highs and lows but can at times entrap us and hold us back. The Book of Psalms offers us several pathways to find voice and/or remedy for the negative emotions that effect our lives. But what can we do when we fear God has abandoned us? What can we do when our world is dark with despair? Psalm 42 expresses these very feelings and offers us a path to hope.

We yearn for everything to be right, but there is always something amiss. The joy of life is often squeezed out by the unrelenting pursuit of something else. Today we’ll consider the growing in grace and gratitude following of Psalm 136.

Building community can be tricky, the lofty aspirations of unity, connection and service will always be spoiled without the key ingredient: love.

The church is re- opening, programs are re-starting, relationships that were put on pause are renewing and new connections are being made. Getting going again, we desire a return to normal, but we were made for even more. The church is more than a building we return to, it is each of us doing the part we are fit for.

But, they have one goal and that is to advance the Kingdom of God. We are citizens of Heaven and our job here is to love one person at a time. We are to live out the story God has called us to.

The first witnesses of the resurrection were struggling with things that they didn’t fully understand, that frankly didn’t make sense. What we find in the Bible’s resurrection accounts is there seeking to piece together the evidence, if you will, to “follow the science” to come to an amazing conclusion and then turn the world upside down. This pattern remains today: If what we believe is true (and it is), then we are invited to live bold lives in the midst of any circumstance.
