NEHEMIAH “A Time to Rebuild” #5 Nehemiah 5 “Defeating Discouragement”

The story of Nehemiah is the story of God’s people returning from exile in distant lands to rebuild Jerusalem and all that had seemed lost. Through it we’ll discover that God’s desire is to restore the broken and repair our lives for his Glory. Completing the building project would fix the broken wall, but they would still be a broken community. Chapter 5 reveals a new level of care for one an- other which is required of us as Kingdom citizens.

Chapter 4 tells of the ongoing building project and some of the obstacles that needed to be overcome. Like us, they had to overcome opposition and discouragement to build the wall.

We constantly must be addressing the questions of "what are we here for?" and "how can we best meet this challenge?" as we seek to become the church God calls us to be.

Over the course of the Survivor Series, we’ve explored the keys to surviving many of the common obstacles we face today. Week to week we’ve looked at each verse of the 23rd Psalm and found the ancient text offers very contemporary help.  Today we recap and wrap up the series with a look at the final verse and see the fruit of trusting the “Good Shepherd” through the trials we face. For the last 20 years, the TV show “Survivor” has been a phenomenon. The reality show audience has been captured by the question “Who will survive to the end?” Yet, isn’t that our question as well? With the ups and downs we can expect to endure in life, we wonder “can we survive?” Relationships are the greatest source of blessing and joy but they can also be great stress producers. Hurts from others are inevitable, so how can we handle them in healthy way?
